The things that are left unsaid

Under Swaying Stars is a debut solo album by Nashville-based multiinstrumentalist and producer Will Mikkelson. Originally from Orlando Will got his start in music in 2009 as the lead singer for the rock band Vera. The band broke up in 2010 and Will poured all of his energy into mixing and mastering. In 2017 his creative side awoke and Will began to feel the itch to write and record original music again. He began the long process of writing and recording a full-length album in his personal studio, exploring and processing themes of grief, love, and healing.

Hollow, in our opinion, one of the best tracks from his album is about trying to connect with someone and not being able to despite the best of intentions. It also has a very Coldplay vibe and that’s why we love it so much.

“Hollow is a call to hope out of sorrow and loss. Musically, the song gradually builds from a hypnotic piano loop – recorded and sampled on a cassette tape in my living room – to an energetic and singable chorus, all over the top a steady 4-to-the-floor groove. I wanted to use techniques and sounds from dance music but in a slower context. Lyrically, the song conveys a feeling of being hollowed out by sorrow and the chorus gives a vision of what living with hope in the day to day could look like in the midst of it.”
