OpenCall Discovers Music: TOMMY NEWPORT

Yellow Lines by Tommy Newport

Tommy Newport is a Manchester-born musician who settled in Kansas after moving at the age of 6 to the United States with his family. He’s been playing and making music for over 6 years. In 2018 his first album “Just To Be Ironic,” brought him features in a variety of television shows, including HBO’s hit TV show Ballers, Netflix’s original series What/If, TBS’ popular TV show Search Party, Amy Schumer’s documentary Expecting Amy, as well as the hit TV show The Sinner.

He creates his music from scratch often starting with guitar or bass. His new track “Yellow Lines” is about losing focus and crossing these yellow lines on the highway and was inspired by The Rolling Stones and their album ‘Some Girls’.

We love Newport’s confidence and focus. He admits he tries to make something every day.

“I struggle telling stories that aren’t my own. I hadn’t successfully finished a love song since the emo ship sunk, and was slowly sinking in the LA dating quicksand…emotionless, clinging to songs about nostalgia and regret, never about love…most certainly not promising someone they would never be alone.”

“Yellow Line’” is catchy and wild and we’re sure this track will bring Tommy even more recognition.
