Current Swell channel love, life and laid-back clarity on new EP Peacekeeper

Fresh off the announcement of their European tour, Vancouver Island’s genre-fluid mainstays Current Swell return with Peacekeeper — a six-track EP due 11 July via Blue Heron Music — and a charming new single, “If You Want My Time”, that strikes the sweet spot between the intimate and the anthemic.

Formed in the surf and sun-soaked communities of British Columbia, Current Swell have long carved a niche for themselves blending rootsy rock with storytelling that feels equally at home on festival stages or late-night drives. With “If You Want My Time,” they distil everyday friction into warm, melodic wisdom — a soft-spoken earworm about love’s nitty-gritty: mismatched routines, patience tested, but a bond that endures through it all.

Produced by Gus van Go (Arkells, The Stills), the track pulls no tricks — all clean guitars, velvet harmonies and the kind of rhythmic sway that feels as natural as breathing.

We wrote this one just jamming and laughing. It’s about those small things that drive you crazy, but also remind you how much you care. We wanted it to sound like that effortless, but true.

That sense of ease permeates Peacekeeper as a whole. Unlike their more heavily-toured early releases, the new EP reflects the band’s evolving rhythm slower, more intentional, shaped by family life and creative autonomy.

The EP follows 2023’s warm-hearted Peacekeeper (EP1), a record that turned heads with the viral singalong charm of “Ba Ba Song” and the meditative weight of its title track — a tribute to mothers, fatherhood, and the unsung work of keeping harmony at home. This second instalment builds on that foundation: older, wiser, and more in tune with what matters.

Despite their laid-back ethos, Current Swell have spent over a decade racking up millions of streams, sold-out international shows, and a devoted global fanbase. Their win at Canada’s Peak Performance Project in 2011 marked a turning point, leading to stages across North America, Brazil, Europe and beyond — now bolstered by the welcome return of bassist and founding member Louis Sadava.

Their upcoming European tour kicks off this June, with a headline London show at The Grace on 3 June that promises to be as intimate as it is electrifying.
